Thoreau had a single bed in his cabin and a single bed would fit in her too. You may be interested to know there is a small house movement in progress. Less is less everything which gives a person more freedom to live a life he wants. McMansions keep you house- bound and poor. You’d need a higher ceiling to put in a loft bed, you’d need an egress window for ventilation up there, and it could get very hot.
Yes, there is space for a sleeping loft – just need to install floor boards on 3/4 of the rafters, and install a ladder. The dimensions for this timberframe were taken directly from Thoreau’s diary. We make reproductions of this 10’x15′ frame, in kit form (eastern white pine), for $1950 FOB Walpole, NH, and can arrange for shipping also.
