Pre-fab Cottage

Pre-fabricated modules shipped locally and assembled on-site.

Pre-fab Cottage is a modern, modular pre-fabricated structure based on a 14 foot square module. The cottages are built using structural insulated panels for floor, walls and roof, creating an extremely energy efficient building envelope. The 14′ x 14′ cottage base module can be assembled in several combinations and is adaptable to many different site conditions aided by its unique precast concrete foundation system. The project featured here is a newly completed residence utilizing four of the modules and a connector hallway. Built in a shop in Traverse City, Michigan the cottage was transported in sections to its site 60 miles to the South in Manistee County. Once transported the cottage modules were then assembled in five hours.

Pre-fabricated 14 foot square mobile modules used to make a small home in Northern Michigan. Designed by Michael Fitzhugh.

Really like this and am interested in the design plans. Very nice choice of simple materials. How does it hold up in the colder months in Michigan?

    • Hi Folks and thank you for all the kind comments and interest. As the creator and proprietor of Cottage in a Day, as well as the utility line of Ready Structures, it’s certainly nice to have my work recognized. I am happy to answer all queries and preview all of our models and pricing at cottageinday.com or readystructures.com
Over the past 5 years and 4 continents ( #5, bidding a project for Brazil in Antarctica now!) I can be confident that my buildings qualify for any climate or geography.
Write me an email or call to discuss which structure may work for you.
      Thanks!

Would be nice to see more of this, as to how they connect and the bedroom factors and such.
How much do one of these modules run? I live in Michigan and might be interested in something like this.

My wife and I are seriously considering investing in several tiny homes. Do you have a catalog available?

  • Gunn4r says:

Looks awesome, whats the cost? I see these really cool modular, prefab, small houses a lot now but they all seem to cost $250+ / sqft which seems kind of insane. Is there a good prefab like this for a reasonable price anywhere??

I have a unique question. We have a peice of property in Peublo West CO. that needs a house. However we own a home here in Michigan and will be selling ASAP. But I would like a traveling tiny house that I could connect and disconnect to other modules of a permanent home. So I would be buying 3 modules. My question is if you build in Pueblo CO.and my second question, can I attach and detach one module to travel with around the country? I know there would be a foundation issue but could lay z permanent one, maybe, for the Mobil part!

  • Stephen Griffin says:

The article and photos are nice but it isn’t clear who built this particular unit. I see the architect, but who would have built the one in the photo?

  • Hi my husband and I are looking to purchase property in MI and are very interested in your design. Could we discuss more an option for purchase and build?

  • Monica says:

How do they open the floor panels? Seems like it would be hard to do without some kind of handle to pull up on.

  • Scott Jones says:

I’m single and retiring soon, planning a move from Grand Rapids to Northport, right up 22 from you, within the next year or so. I have property there already and am looking at the possibility of a tiny-like house. I’d like to build or have built small – a one bedroom, one floor, no larger than 500 square feet micro-mansion of the kind you seem to also appreciate and am interested in the specifics of what it is you do. Any information about your operation you can send me would be appreciated. Thanks!
