Wonderful photos of an ideal tiny house! I love the stairs/storage, and the kitchen is terrific. I like that you have both range and oven. So many tiny houses have a couple of burners, or a toaster oven or microwave – limiting one’s ability to roast, bake, and broil in my opinion.

    Questions:

Assuming that’s a propane oven/range and fridge, how long does one of those canisters last e.g in hours? If you have a turkey baking for 4 hours is that the end of the gas or what? Is monoxide poisoning ever an issue with propane-powered appliances?

Does propane also power the heat? I note electric outlets and lights, as well as a thermostat and heat vent at the base of the stairs.

Thanks for sharing your gorgeous space.

Thank you! I do use my kitchen heavily and on a daily basis. And I love my oven. It’s compact, but I can still get a 20+ pound turkey in their in my biggest roast pan.

The oven/range is propane, but my fridge is electric. The heating is propane as well though it requires electricity to run the fan. I started with two 30 pound propane tanks and even the week it dropped well into the -20’s here, one tank would supply all the cooking and heating propane for almost a week. In warmer weather, they last much longer. I have since added a 100 pound tank as well just to save myself from needing to fill one tank or the other every week.

Check out my house’s blog (fynyth.blogspot.com) for lots more photos and info and if you have any other questions, I’ll do my best to answer them.

It is so beautiful! Can I get info on who built it?
    I love it!

I LOVE this house! For being a tiny house, it’s very spacious. The layout is wonderful and I especially love the clever storage steps, the lofts and the fact that you use “real size” furnishings, ie. the recliner and full sz. fridge. You don’t see a recliner in every tiny house! So well done, I love it! Enjoy your space!

What the plus and minus with it. One day i hope to own a tiny home. Thank you for sharing yours

Wow, looks nice….a rather practical question: How much does it cost to build/buy it?

There is a “FAQS” website about to launch that will address questions such as this. Be sure you are signed up for the Tiny House Newsletter and the Tiny House Blog so when it does launch, you will be notified.

A short answer is: It depends upon the materials you choose to use (recycled or brand new), how many appliances you put in (dishwasher/no dishwasher) and the labor (Do-It-Yourself or have it built by a Tiny House builder; of which there are many, also found in the newsletter and on the blog.)

    • Ariel says:

I have a whole post about buying one. http://fynyth.blogspot.com/2014/11/is-my-tiny-house-too-expensive.html If you can do the work yourself, and count your labor as free, you can obviously do it for less.

  • Sooo very lovely, cozy and altogether perfect!! Thank you so much for sharing your nest with us…you’ve done a wonderful job of it all!!!

There are lots of good things in this THOW: (1) I love the fact that the refrigerator is a built-in instead of being an under-counter appliance; it saves on all that bending over on a daily basis for meal prep. (2) The storage-staircase is a definite plus and I intend to have one built into my THOW. (3) This bed loft gets a two-thumbs-up for plenty of space; you can turn over without banging your head and there is enough room for tall (6’2″) significant others.

Thanks for sharing your THOW build. (4) I love the way you have customized the interior decor; very homey and most inviting! Good job, guys!!! 😀

My FAVORITE photos of Tiny Homes are ones surrounded by snow. It hearkens back to my Scandinavian Heritage and I can imagine my Grandparent’s parents living in a tiny log cabin in Canada.

    Beautifully appointed home. Congratulations.

Hi Ariel – I just love your wonderful tiny home. So much character and so cozy. Really like the upper shelving around the living room for books and plants (which you don’t see too often). I’ll be turning 65 this year and still have thoughts about tiny house living or even building a weekend retreat. I’ll go to your blog for more info. Thanks so much for sharing your home – it’s truly inspiring.

  • Looks to be quite lived in but where is the tint stove?

  • The auto correct changed my word of little to tint as if that makes any sense

    • Ariel says:

I’m assuming you mean the stove for heating, not the range/oven? It’s tucked under the stairs and vents into the main room, kitchen, and bathroom from there.

Storage stairs! A real kitchen! Is that a cork floor? I love it! Great design! 🙂

Thanks for the great pictures. As I am building my Tumbleweed I am taking into considerations many of the things you said you would do differently, and using the same kitchen layout. Very much appreciated.

  • I just posted a video tour of this house too if anyone’s interested. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_BboQfJEpfM&feature=youtu.be
