Arcadia Farm Cabin

We love your site. We live west of the Blue Ridge in Virginia. My daughter and I built this cabin working when we could find time over a couple of years. We cut the trees off Purgatory Mt. and used mortar for the chinking. There’s a loft inside and now there’s a screen porch. We’ve hosted many great helpers from all over the world, where they stay in cabin and get farm fresh meals in exchange for their work on farm. Sophie was eight or so when we built the cabin; she’s now 15 and blogging for the farm; the blog links to our helper info.

We’re about to connect the cabin via deck to a bathhouse utility room that will hold solar panels that heat water for radiant concrete slab in that building and the next one, also connected by deck, a 30ft yurt. Our helpers will be staying in the old house then, as my wife and I and our 3 yr old twins will live in yurt and Sophie will stay in cabin. The old hill farmer house we’ve been living in is just a bit too drafty and dark for winter; eventually I hope to tear it down and build tiny houses out of the salvage.

Bravo on creating such a nice place to plant your family. You’re raising what will be one seriously self-sufficient young woman. Good luck with your continued expansion.

This is so cool– I love this! I would like very much to contact the owners because I need materials for my own tiny house, which is in MD and certainly could use the salvaged stuff from the old hill farmer house. Please contact me at Sarahstryker@aol.com if you read this. Thank you so much!
