I’m a writer and photographer who spent 2014 interviewing tiny home owners, yet I accidentally happened across this unique home while I was on vacation. All the photos are mine, but the home is the amazing creation of Joe Weissbeck, who you can see in the exterior photo.

An owner-built home in The Alford Desert about 8 hours outside of Portland, Oregon. Photos by Billy Ulmer. More info. here.

One of the coolest-looking (bus? RV?) conversions I’ve seen! The “stripe” windows are so unique! I’d love to know more about how Joe created his home, what (if any) insulation those walls have, etc…

I like the interior colors, but overall, this looks like something only its designer/owner could love.
My very first thought–and it definitely gives away my age if anyone is at all familiar with the great sci-fi writers of 50 and 60 years ago–is that this looks very much like some kind of alien sci-fi monster. The desert setting, the buildings around it, everything but the parrot (it is a parrot, isn’t it?) looks as if it came straight out of a book by Arthur C. Clark, or Isaac Asimov. That’s not necessarily a bad thing–it’s just one old woman’s perception, that’s all 🙂
